孕婦遭蚊咬的機會比未懷孕的女性高出1倍。婦女在懷孕期間所呼出的氣體含有多種不同的化學物質，因而成為瘧蚊的叮咬目標。此外，孕婦體溫較高，出汗也多，是皮膚細菌滋生的良好基地。這兩個原因使孕婦比其他婦女更易惹蚊子“光顧”。
很多人以為滅蚊時刺激性氣味越強，消滅蚊子就越有效，強刺激性氣味對人體是有一定危害的，例如一些過敏體質的人可能會對煙霧、對氣味、甚至對有效成分本身有一些過敏，可能會引起一些不適。
另外對于老人、兒童、孕婦或者哮喘病人而言，由于他們都是易感人群，同樣使用某種驅蚊用品別人也許相安無事，而他們卻很可能會感到身體不舒服。所以為他們選擇那些無煙、無味、刺激性小的驅蚊用品才比較安全，同時建議大家在使用的時候還是要半開著窗戶。
